Darkness can’t stand light

As we celebrate the birth of our King, not the baby in the manger, not the man on the cross…but the Saviour the of the World, your saving Grace, The King, His Majesty, Jesus Christ, Immanuel – God with us – the Light of this World… I would like to remind you and to some perhaps even introduce you to the Light of this World, by sharing the following with you.

Have you ever been in a familiar setting such as your home and the electricity all of a sudden switches off? However, no matter how dark it is, you are able to navigate yourself around your home.

I would like to use this Pictionary to narrate what it means to accept Christ as your saviour.  Once you have received your salvation, once you have tasted and experienced the goodness of God – you will never be able to go back to what was, you have been pulled out of darkness and placed into perfect light – you are not able to return to darkness – no matter how much darkness tries to penetrate – darkness never wins.  You have become the light (John 8:12) … the Bible does say that we are the Salt and the Light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14).

What could this darkness look like in your life?  The darkness I am referring could be despair and hopelessness to deal with certain challenges such as marital problems, financial challenges, health challenges; or secret sins such as disbelief, gluttony, pornography, adultery, celibacy. What about public sins such as alcoholism or drug abuse.  But the Light I am referring to is Joy, Hope, Love, Peace Freedom and Victory. So, no matter the darkness – Light is always greater.  The greater the sin, grace abounds even more (Romans 5:20).  The more marital strife, the more love and peace is made available.  The more you struggle to abstain for sex, the more freedom and victory is made available.

You have the ability to have victory over darkness, because the light is in you. Going back to the pictionary – you are able to navigate yourself through your house even through the pitch-black darkness because you have seen and got to know your house through the LIGHT!  The details of your house are in you – you have become the light… As Christ is, so am I.

May you be encouraged that no matter how much temptation you face, no matter the trials and tribulations you experience…. nothing can separate you from the Love of God (Romans 8:38-39).

If you would like to use this celebratory season of the Birth of Jesus Christ as a moment of reflection to commit or recommit your life to Christ, please say this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus,

Your Word says that if we repent of our sins and believe with our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is our Lord and our saviour, that He died on the cross and forgave all our sins, that you will come into our heart and become our Lord and Saviour.  So, I receive you as my Lord and Saviour, and believe that from this day forward I will never be the same again.  My mind is renewed, my soul is set free – the old things have gone and I am a new creature in Christ Jesus.  With you Jesus, my life will never be the same again – you have saved me and who the Son as set free is free indeed. I now receive the abundant life, the Zoey life that you have planned for me.

In Jesus Name, Amen
